My D5240 Rotary Family,

I deliberated to write you 'til this Valentine's Day, sending you love and smiles as appropriate under this year's theme, "Rotary Is Love".

To begin, I wish to express my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you for your generous contributions and tireless efforts to support those affected by the devastating fires in Los Angeles County. At our District Foundation Gala on January 25, we raised $7,410 through silent auction baskets contributed by Groups 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, & 12.  Many clubs are continuing to fundraise - for now, a shout out to Nipomo, Santa Maria Breakfast and Ventura East who have or would be donating $10,000 or more to our fellow Rotary Districts 5280 and 5300. Thank you, Club Presidents Kim Stone/Montecito and Nancy Crawford/Santa Maria Noon for collecting and delivering essentials to the respective districts. Whether your contribution was large or small, it has made a meaningful impact. It is clear that your kindness and compassion have brought light into the lives of those who are struggling to rebuild. Thank you for sharing "Rotary is Love" đź’ś

Now, as February is Rotary International’s Peace and Conflict Resolution Month, I want to take a moment to highlight the significance of peace. As the renowned philosopher Albert Einstein once said, “Pesce cannot be kept by force; it can only be achieved by understanding”. Peace is not merely the absence of conflict; it is a holistic concept that requires addressing the underlying causes and fostering a culture of understanding and cooperation. True peace comes when we work proactively to resolve the roots of conflict, ensuring that we are not merely reacting to violence and division but addressing the deeper issues that fuel it. Whether it’s through education, community-building, or supporting humanitarian efforts, our continued commitment to these causes makes us part of a broader movement toward lasting peace.

So, as we honor Peace and Conflict Resolution Month, I encourage all of you to continue your work with both heart and mind. Let us strive not only to address the immediate challenges but to create lasting change that builds a more peaceful, just, and equitable world for all. Thank you again for your dedication and passion. Together, we can continue making a profound difference, both in Los Angeles County, and across the globe.

Rotary Is Love + Service = Magic of Rotary!

Always Yours in Service,
